After releasing the popular sequel to the first Virtuoso in October 2024, today, APL is excited to introduce Virtuoso Lite, a streamlined edition of its flagship Virtuoso binaural monitoring tool, praised by many top sound engineers for its accurate and natural-sounding speaker and room virtualization.

Powered by ASPEN™ technology, APL Virtuoso brings immersive audio mixing and listening to headphones, offering customisable virtual listening rooms that mimic real environments. Virtuoso delivers accurate externalisation and localisation of sound, ensuring mix decisions translate well to loudspeakers. Key features of the full version of Virtuoso include support for 53 speaker configurations (from mono to Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D), seven virtual room presets, fully customizable acoustic settings, and built-in and custom HRTF sets and headtracking. The software currently provides EQ compensation for 100 headphone models, with 10-band parametric EQ for user customization, ensuring a personalized, high-fidelity listening experience across any setup.

HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) settings in Virtuoso are crucial for creating a natural and immersive listening experience. HRTF is a filter that models how an individual's ears, head, and torso affect the way sound reaches the eardrum from different directions. Users can either use one of the five presets built into Virtuoso, or upload their personalised settings for an even more realistic adjustment.

With the introduction of ADM/WAV playback in Virtuoso v2, sound engineers now have a powerful tool for quality control (QC)—a feature highly welcomed by professionals. As more QC workflows move to remote environments, clients often lack access to full Dolby Atmos speaker systems or compatible software to play ADM files. Binaural playback is the most effective solution for accurate QC in such cases. 

To support this shift, APL is launching the Virtuoso Partnership Program, designed to enhance remote QC workflows by equipping qualified professional engineers with up to 5 free licenses of the Virtuoso Lite Standalone app, which can be shared with their clients. 

When purchasing the full version of Virtuoso, partners will receive these free licenses. Their clients then play the original ADM file on Virtuoso, virtually checking how the mix is translated in different loudspeaker configurations and different playback environments, such as living room and home cinema as well as the engineer's mix room.
